Meet the SAINT Team
The School Aged Immunisation Nursing Team (SAINT) delivers vaccination programmes to children and young people across Somerset, working closely with schools, families, and healthcare partners to ensure every child has the opportunity to access vaccinations in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
We are committed to providing equitable care for all children and young people, recognising that everyone has different needs. Whether this means offering community clinics for those who are unable to receive vaccinations in school, supporting young people who are electively home educated, or adapting our approach for those with additional learning needs, we strive to ensure that every individual can access our service in a way that works best for them.
For children and young people attending school, we schedule visits to all schools to deliver the vaccinations that are due. Parents and carers are sent an electronic consent form, which allows them to either provide consent for vaccination or decline.
We also offer catch-up sessions between vaccination programmes for those who were absent on the day of the school visit or who felt it was not the right time to receive their vaccination when we first attended.
For children and young people in alternative education settings, we make contact by letter and offer vaccination clinics throughout the school holidays. These clinics provide an opportunity for those who are not in a school setting to receive their vaccinations when due.
Our holiday clinics also support children and young people who may find the school environment challenging for vaccination. The clinics offer a calmer setting, with more time available to discuss concerns, process information, and receive vaccinations at a pace that feels comfortable for them.
Our team brings together a wealth of experience from paediatric nursing, community nursing, adult healthcare, and a variety of healthcare settings. This broad range of knowledge and expertise enables us to provide high-quality care while supporting children and young people through their vaccination journey.
We are passionate about continuous learning and development, keeping up to date with best practice and exploring innovative approaches to care. Our goal is to create positive vaccination experiences, helping children and young people feel supported, respected, and confident throughout the process.
Together, we are dedicated to protecting the health of Somerset’s children and young people, one vaccination at a time.
